Otherness, Desire, the Vernacular

Temnikova & Kasela Gallery
19 November 2021 – 16 January 2022

“Otherness, Desire, the Vernacular” is a joint exhibition between me and Colombian artist Carlos Motta at Temnikova and Kasela Gallery. I had long thought about doing an exhibition with Carlos, as we have both looked to the past in our work, seeking alternative interpretations and ways of reading to historical events, concepts and objects. At this show, my works dealt with folk culture and contrasted symbols of gay culture, such as jockstrap, with the traditional iconography of handicrafts.

The exhibition was curated by Denis Maksimov.

Carpets were woven by Ingrid Helena Pajo and Claudia Diaz Reyes.
